The Brewing Manager of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, Kumasi, Martin Appiah Danquah, who is also an alumnus of the Faculty of Biosciences, KNUST, has advised graduands from the Faculty of Biosciences and the Institute of Distance Learning, to take up the challenges of life and go for good opportunities that may come their way.
The Master Brewer gave this advice in a motivational speech delivered on the 4th day of the 44th congregation ceremony held for 322 graduands from the faculty of Biosciences at the Great Hall of KNUST.
Using himself as an example, he compared himself to a "beer", saying “when I was in the green walls of this University; I felt like green beer, fresh and protected by the University. like beer, I was brewed, nurtured, fermented, matured, filtered and finally packaged into excellent premium beer for the market” He said in much the same way, the students have also undergone the same processes that have made them ready for the global market.
Mr. Appiah Danquah said although the brewery industry was difficult, competitive and a profession where training could only be obtained abroad, he learnt so many things whilst at KNUST. He was therefore determined to stay in his motherland, and truly he stayed in Ghana and is currently a master, the second in Ghana solely trained in Ghana.
He therefore encouraged the graduands to stay in Ghana and contribute their quota to the development of the country.
He said although the future may look bleak in terms of the economy and job placement, there are even more opportunities currently with the oil find in Ghana. He further said the move towards biotechnology, coupled with the fact that the kind of training they have gone through and with the analytical minds they would be sought after in all sectors of employment.
Prof. K.K. Adarkwa said that the education they have received is a universal one and that they must be prepared to adapt to the changing trends in the corporate world.
